A score ago, Ryuu, a middle classed restaurant owner, and Hae-Ri Cheon, a noble from Ba Sing Se, fell in forbidden love. They met in a once-humble restaurant in the Fire Nation. It took a few secret dates before the couple realized Hae-Ri was pregnant and engaged to someone else.
Vague letters to the Cheon family were sent, and their daughter was told to return to the manor after child labor: events were supposed to advance like nothing happened. Before Hae-Ri's departure, she left a golden kylin necklace ( family symbol of the Cheon family) for Kyung-Min; in addition, she secretly left Ryuu with all the money she carried under the bed. For the next six years, things were "normal."
At the mere age of six, Kyung discovered his earth bending abilities. When a vulture hawk was trying to attack Kira (the family messenger hawk), the enraged child shot a boulder and flattened the vulture hawk to death.
Kyung was once a sickly child, and things were worse since he had to lie anout his abilities. To honor his mother's wish, he cover his heritage and pretend to be a "non-bender;" no outsider must know he was an illegitimate son of a powerful family. For years, Kyung grew bitter of being bullied; however, the training simply made him more adept at physical combat as well. At night, the child had to practice his bending near his grandfather's home, which was located in the isolated mountains.
One fateful night, the earth bender met a young girl a year younger than him; it was no other than the governor's daughter, Miyabi Kasai, who sneaked out of her home. The two, after a few hostile conflicts, became good friends. Under the guidance of Kyung's grandfather, they had a few practice fights, pranks, and adventures.
Of course, the governor did not lack awareness. Hotaru secretly caught the two teenagers causing havoc in town. Mr. Kasai became impressed with the child and his foreign abilities. For the sake of political propaganda, the governor accepted the "ten-year-old desolate child from the mountains" as a workman. Wanting to give his son a better life, Ryuu complied to the lie; however, Kyung's backstory was kept a secret within the Kasai household.
Behind the walls of the extravagant estate, Kyung was fed and trained properly. He was given a private tutor, branded clothing, and whatnots in exchange of his freedom. Kyung was tasked to succeed as the spoiled heiress' guard and due to legal loopholes, one of Hotaru's new "hands and ears." The teen spent his morning in a normal all boys school in the Fire Nation, his evenings with Miyabi, and his free time with the governor's spies. This was Kyung's life for the next six years.
When Kyung was fifteen, a messenger from Ba Sing Se was sent to his father Ryuu. Apparently, Hae-Ri was forced to marry an impotent governor, and to save their family honor, the Cheon family needs an heir. Due to Ryuu's plea, Kyung reluctantly complied.
In Ba Sing Se, Kyung was treated like an illegitimate child; everyone was forced to like him, and barely anything sparked his interest. He had grown fond of stealing, cheating, and kidnapping for the governor, so a life of being a wallflower was utmost disgusting for him. Having enough of this lifestyle, Kyung had planned to escape from Ba Sing Se. No way was he going to marry some unknown businessman's spineless daughter. The boy called (via telephone) his father, and upon receiving news that Miyabi has left town, Kyung left for Republic City.
Cheon Kyung-Min currently resides in the Tsun Mei Hotel with his "friend" Miyabi.
