Personality[]

Samir worked at the air temples for many years as well as aided in small earth nation villages for a period of time. As such, he is a very compassionate, selfless individual. Samir is willing to help anyone (or anything) in need no matter their ethnic, social status, or species. However, Samir is by no means a pacifist. While he does try to avoid violence when he can, Samir is not afraid to stand up and defend those he has come to care for, although he has never killed anyone himself. As a Lawful Virtuous, Samir strictly follows many of the teachings of the air nomads, hence his immense generosity and caring nature. However, this strict code often leads him to overthink and not take action until it is too late. Samir can also be a bit stubborn when it comes to leaving his comfort zone, although he is very calm and collected essentially all of the time, even if those he speaks with are not. Samir also rarely shows many extreme emotions unless he is forced to do so.

History[]

Samir was born to two airbending masters at the Eastern Air Temples. His older brother, Ngodup, and younger sister, Tashi, also were born airbenders. However, for some unlucky reason, Samir was born without any bending. He was constantly teased by both of his siblings for his lack of bending, but Samir was rarely bothered by it. However, what did bother Samir was the lack of attention he received from either of his parents, which became very apparent when he turned 10. His mother spent much of her time training Ngodup and Tashi in airbending while his father spent almost all of his time working with the Temple council. Samir also made very few friends at the Temple because he was one of the only non-benders. As such, Samir often secluded himself to his room or the Temple study and constantly read through air nomad scripture, easily memorizing the entire Temple’s worth by age 14.

Samir then became restless with nothing to do. He tried looking for odd jobs to do at the temple the next two years, but nothing seemed fulfilling. It certainly did not help that his two siblings were already quickly mastering airbending and becoming adored by the entire Temple. Samir did begin caring for those who became ill, although it consumed little of his time due to how quickly water bending healers could arrive and help out. For a brief time, Samir also began teaching younger children about the air nomad culture when one of the elders died suddenly, although he was quickly replaced by a more experienced teacher.

At age 18, when Ngodup and Tashi were on one of their usual bragging tirades (which always conveniently happened when neither of their parents were nearby), Samir snapped and angrily accused them of ignoring the practices of the air nation, asking them how much they were really doing for people. After getting beaten to the point of passing out, Samir took his Bison, Ibba, and left the island.

For the next year, Samir traveled to many different Earth Nation towns, helping out those in ne

ed and staying in various areas. Sometimes he was lucky enough to have citizens open their home to him. Other times, Samir was stuck living on the outskirts of the city with little shelter. During one night stay, however, Samir met a man named Groto, a muscular but secretive man who forcefully taught Samir survival in the wild. Groto admired Samir’s selfless, kind demeanor, but he told Samir that he would not last longer than a week as a traveler without such essential skills. Groto eventually decided to join Samir on his travels, alongside Groto's eel-hound Baldar.

The next few villages Samir visited the following year were infested with thugs and corrupt guards. He was arrested once or twice, but his arrests often sparked wide protests from the locals, which eventually led to the guards freeing him (That, or Groto freed him with force). On his 25th birthday, Groto and Samir were assaulted by a group of trained assassins from a corrupt village head. They were completely outnumbered but somehow managed to win, although Groto suffered too many wounds in battle and died. In addition, Ibba was forceably taken from Samir by Ngodup and Tashi, claiming Samir "stole" him when he fled the air temple. Samir became depressed and secluded himself for a while and meditated. Eventually, Samir received a revelation during one session. He quickly readied Baldar, who quickly warmed up to his new master, and attempt to move into Republic City, with the plans of opening an orphanage or poor house with the money he had been received from several of the people he had helped.

After entering Republic City, Samir quickly ended up involved in stopping a few different attempts at murder and destruction. After nearly getting burned to death in one attempt to defend a forest shrine, Samir decided if he was going to keep trying to defend people, he would need to get some allies. As such, Samir, under the alias of Groto, joined the RCPD and has been a normal recruit, working his way up as he tries to make new allies among the force in hopes of it in turn making Republic City a more peaceful, safe, and perhaps even prosperous place to be.

Noticing the police corps in shambles, Samir wants to stay in the force only as long as when he feels they have a solid foundation of justice and order, as he feels he must lessen his focus a bit on helping the poor and instead on keeping the city safe.
