Appearance

Ginji is a tall, fierce looking man. Standing at a proud 6'3. His fiery red hair is typically the first thing people notice. He usually wears his black jacket and can be seen with an assortment of weapons. Scars and burn litter his torso and arms, due to all the violence in his life. But his favored jacket always covers them. When covered in blood, his cold red eyes tend to stand out. But underneath his jacket is a composite chestplate to offer light protection, he uses shinguards of the same material.

Personality

Ginji is quite a few things, a warrior, a blacksmith, a father and quite a hard worker in general. He’s proud of his skills and abilities, so he has somewhat of an ego. Some of his main goals in life would be to keep improving his fighting skills and to make a lot of money, so his allegiance to the faction known as the Yin Shi is rather beneficial. Ginji LOVES fighting and rarely passes up a chance to test his mettle, his warrior mentality makes it hard to pass up a challenge.

He is merciless and indifferent towards most people, though he’s capable of offering respect to worthy allies. The man has a heart, but only his girlfriend and daughter have really received anything resembling love and compassion from him. Ginji can easily come off as rude, blunt, casually vulgar, arrogant and vicious.

Surprisingly he doesn’t follow the “brawn and no brains” philosophy as he would seem, he can be untrusting and careful in certain situations. Definitely able to tell when someone’s in the way of his goals or a threat to him or his rare loved ones. But above all else, Ginji is a survivor and more recently a protector. Keeping himself and those precious to him alive and well.

History

Ginji Muramasa was born to a family of esteemed benders in the Fire Nation on Weishao 17th, there were benders of all four elements. But mostly of air and fire. Many of them went on to make great nomads, Pro-Benders and even soldiers. Needless to say Muramasa children had high expectations. But Menma and Nezumi, already having 2 firebenders, an airbender and a earthbender expected another bender when Nezumi was found to be pregnant with her fifth child.

Ginji was named after his great grandfather, after a few years they expected him to be another bender. When he was five, Menma attempted to find out which element he could bend. It was light at first, but as he didn’t seem to have power over any of the 4. He began abusing Ginji, pushing him harder to become a bender. His mother nor his siblings had the courage to do or say anything, they often ignored him and refused to spend time with him. Causing him to be an isolated child.

After 2 years of relentless beating and further attempts to force him to reveal mastery over an element that were all in vain, Menma had come to peace with a cruel fact. His fifth born was a non-bender, he was embarrassed, ashamed and angry. He was raised to believe benders were superior, secretly dismissing the teachings of equality from Aang and Zuko.

Ginji was 7 on the day that he was cast out of the Muramasa clan and completely disowned, he was scared and heartbroken. Simply wanting the love he saw his other siblings receive. His mother was far too passive while the children merely bullied on the brother they were taught to view as inferior, left with nothing but the clothes on his back and awful memories.

Obviously a small homeless child would’ve died on his own, he barely made it 2 days on his own. A traveling group of warriors riding komodo rhinos, they seemed like noble, strong soldiers from the Fire Nation Army. Ginji made the mistake of asking them for food when they stopped for a break. Naturally he couldn’t have been more incorrect, he was quickly taken captive by the group of mercenaries and knocked out, having woken up a few hours later.

Those men were members of the Armadillo Bears, a savage, infamous mercenary group that tore through the Fire Nation and performed any atrocity that paid enough. Like Ginji, the group had a habit of kidnapping children. Boys were put to work and trained to become proper members of the faction. While girls were used as maids and cooks, even used as whores if they grew up attractive enough. Upon revealing his status as a nonbender, the 7 year old was given a sword had no choice but to learn how to use it.

Boys raised by the Armadillo Bears were taught to kill, survive and fight as young as 5. Forced to spar with adults and often tasked with killing animals as a part of their training. Naturally like many, Ginji struggled to swallow his fear and fight. This went on until he was 8, where his mentors had gotten frustrated with him. So they gave him two measly sai and locked him in a cage with a tiger monkey, informed that the cage would not be opened until one of them was dead.

The tiger monkey they had taken was definitely rabid, willing to completely tear that boy to absolute shreds. As a horrid bite drove into his arm, something in Ginji simply snapped. Perhaps he was simply tired and frustrated from all the suffering in his life and wanted to lash out. Using his training, he drove a sai straight through the creatures’ skull. As he was released from the cage, he definitely felt proud of himself.

From then on, Ginji excelled in his training. Showing a talent for armed combat and violence in general, the boy began to outshine the other boys. At the age of 10, he was put on the battlefield and shocked many, able to kill his 1st man that day. Along with his 2nd, 3rd and 4th. From then on, he became a respected member of the Armadillo Bears into his adolescent years, going from a savage child to a ferocious teenager. He spent 5 years killing, training, drinking and sleeping with the same girls he grew up with. Over that time, he had discovered another talent for forgery and mechanics. Able to create the same amazing weapons that he put to use.

At the age of 15, he had grown to respect his allies. He saw all that horrid abuse as a necessity to make him into a man. Definitely preferring them over his awful family. But coincidentally, Ginji’s father was actually a regular customer of the Armadillo Bears. He secretly paid the group for many jobs and even knew Ginji was taken by them all those years ago, he didn’t really care. After completing a solo job had ran into his mother Nezumi and his eldest sibling Yasuo, who had gotten through a successful career in the Fire Nation Navy. Nezumi spoke of how proud she was of him and 4 of her children, that’s right she didn’t even care about the runt of the litter. Ginji just became that mistake none of the family ever spoke of. Yasuo’s amazing firebending didn’t stop him from being mowed down by Ginji’s berserker rage and then savagely beheaded his mother, an act of vengeance against the family.

Menma had witnessed the entire scene, but was far too cowardly to do a damn thing about it. Crying over the corpses of his beautiful wife and first born. He wanted that disgusting nonbender to pay for this crime, quickly hiring a squad from the Armadillo Bears to kill him. They had mixed feelings about killing one of their best, but Menma had more than enough money to convince them. The poor fools went off on a mission with him a few days later in an attempt to get an easy kill. He was taken by surprise, but more than willing to decimate them. After a long fight that nearly overtaxed him, only one of those bastards was left breathing. The savage warrior demanded answers and he definitely got them, some of the news definitely shocked him. But Ginji had a simple task now, exterminate the family that cast him aside while wiping out the mercenary group that had no issues killing him. During his vendetta fueled manhunt, the young man had realized that he only needed himself. Absolutely no one was to be trusted.

With fun memories of the demise of his entire family and the very men that made him into a monster, he had left the Fire Nation for a fresh start. The Earth Republic was a large place, many of them in need of a hired sword. This began Ginji’s career as a solo soldier of fortune for a number of years, besting many and sharpening his skills over time. After turning 21, he had heard of how chaotic Republic City was, possessing an underworld like he had never seen. He arrived to Republic City and continued his career, needing no one and having nothing to lose. But things change don’t they?

Not only this, but they are stronger and sharper than regular metals; making them able to cut through, withstand impacts better or break things a normal weapon could not. However, this is a double edged sword and the user will not be able to know when their injuries are too severe, causing them to suffer greatly afterwards and be physically drained. This effect can only last for a few minutes, as it requires intense concentration. (Achieved after 7 months)

Weapons

Arsenal[]
  • Grenades and Other Explosives

A fan of destructive firepower, Ginji uses 4 different kinds of grenades. Fragmentation grenades that disperse lethal fragments upon detonation. Concussion grenades that rely on sheer force and provide more power than the former. While smoke grenades can easily cover an area and supply a chance for attack/escape, the smoke is also somewhat harmful to breathe. A newer addition would be flash grenades that disorient senses with a bright flash and a loud "bang" sound, causing temporary loss of sight, hearing, balance and a lasting afterimage to victims. Along with these grenades, Ginji is also equipped with remote charges that can be detonated from a considerable distance.

  • Extendable Katana

A long two handed weapon consisting of a platinum blade he forged himself, Ginji's favored weapon in battle. With his mastery of close range weaponry, the mercenary uses it to savagely and quickly cut down his foes. Though with the press of a button on the hilt, the entire blade is able to extend into several segments. It's whip blade form provides an amazing source of mid-range damage and can easily revert back into it's base form by pressing the same button. He possesses two sheaths on the left side of his waist, one for his katana and the other for his wakizashi.

  • Wakizashi

A platinum blade that is clearly shorter than his katana, but with it’s design it’s able to be wielded with a single hand. With his katana sheathed, Ginji is able to fight more defensively by swinging the Wakizashi and blocking attacks with his shield. The blade is also more effective when fighting in closed spaces. Though he clearly prefers putting away both and putting his katana’s vastly superior range to use.

  • Left Gauntlet

Ginji's gauntlets serve as undeniable evidence of his mechanical prowess. Both gauntlets are slightly reinforced with platinum, most of it covering his knuckles to increase the power of his punches. The left contains a retractable platinum shield, providing a good balance of durability, weight and resistance to bending just like his katana. It can also serve as a makeshift blunt weapon if he's ever robbed of his katana and chokuto, especially since the shield is lined with a layer of small spikes which makes it easier to bludgeon enemies to death with.

  • Right Gauntlet

While the right gauntlet is home to his chain hook launcher with a sturdy grappling hook, able to grant him mobility and the ability to restrain enemies attempting to flee. The platinum chain and hook makes it quite reliable in combat. Along with it would be a repeater crossbow which can quickly discharge a round of sharp platinum tipped bolts, though the limit would be 20 bolts and Ginji is definitely no marksman since he definitely prefers close combat. The crossbow allows several shots before reloading, but the bow must be pulled back for every shot.

  • Custom Made Jacket

Whenever Ginji is on a job, he wears a variant of his trademark leather jacket. It is made of thick leather and is designed with composite padding. Giving him some resistance to electric attacks. There are also many compartments for his explosives and some projectiles.

  • Shuriken

The repeater crossbow is his preferred source of long range combat, but if it breaks or runs out of ammo, he possesses a number of platinum shuriken.

  • Kunai

If all else fails, Ginji can use a few platinum kunai to desperately stab foes if he lost his other weapons.

Notes & Trivia

Ginji is the 3rd character I ever made and the 3rd nonbender created on the wiki. He was also the first character I had become a parent.
