History

After the Rebellion began, the first thing that they did was topple the existing government and topple it they did. The current president at the time, Makado Malina, was assassinated, leaving his wife, Marska, a widow and his son, Tahoka, fatherless. This was 244 ASC. With no where to go and people fleeing to their homelands in terror, Marska took her son back to the Northern Water Tribe, he was twelve at the time, where she had lived as a child. After arriving, she was taken in by some of her extended family. They were not the only refugees returning to the tribe for safety. With the influx of people and the need for work among them all, Marska was forced to do work she never imagined in her cushy life as the wife of the president.

For years she worked as her son Tahoka grew and eventually he had to do the same as his mother. Tahoka, now seventeen, began working at a textile mill where his mother worked. There he met a woman, Kya, and they fell in love. She was the only daughter of the wealthy family that owned the textile mill. They were together for a few years before the ended up getting married, against her parents’ wishes. They wanted to start a family together even though they were both poor due to her being cut off from her family during the marriage. They tried many times have a child but always failed. After being married for a few years they sought out Kya’s mother, who was the best healer in the tribe. Estranged and having not talked since the marriage, they were welcomed with open arms. After hearing their plight even Kya’s father gave in and welcomed them into his home. Unfortunately, there was nothing her mother could do for them.

They lived there for a year or so before Kya’s father became deathly ill and passed, leaving the business to Tahoka. After a few more years, they finally conceived a child. After he was born, they named him Taos. As Taos got older, he became friends with a young boy named Michu. Michu lived with his family there who had also fled the city. His father was an airbender and his mother a waterbender. By the age of seven, they were even best friends. After Michu turned thirteen, they discovered he was the Avatar. Normally the Avatar is discovered because of their ability to bend more than one element, but Michu was discovered when he entered the Avatar state. To everyone’s knowledge before that happened, Michu wasn’t even a bender. After that, Michu left his family, friends and the tribe.

Many years later, eight to be exact, Michu had turned up in Republic city. Excited by this, Taos tried to contact his old friend but, due to the distance and Michu's busy life ,to no avail. After about three years, Michu ended the Rebellion and set up a new government and created the Council of Nine. It was designed to have two representatives from each nation, one bender and one non-bender. To Taos’ surprise, Michu came to the Northern Water Tribe and asked that he sit on the Council. Taos greeted his lost friend with much joy and Michu returned the greeting the same. Taos agreed to be a part of the Council. Taos then took his family to the city. He was married and had a son, named Tikaani, who was six at the time.

After moving to the city, Taos, Michu and the other Councilors began to rebuild the city and then eventually enacted the Citizenship Project. While Michu roamed the world searching for people to come to the city, Taos watch his son get older, get married and eventually take his seat on the Council. While Tikaani was still young and newly married, they had a son named Hokada. Many years have passed, Tikaani has stepped down as a Councilor and his son has taken his place. In the current year, Hokada is forty-nine and lives in the city with his wife. His only daughter, Inara, being twenty years old, has since moved out from her parents’ home and also lives in the city.
