Personality[]

Hiyato just doesn't give a shit. He cares somewhat about the people he likes – but he isn't immediately enamoured with everyone right away. Emotionally, he's very closed off, and keeps his walls up via glossing over any emotional topic. Despite being clever, he will not think things through, and will go screaming headlong into any danger. He will jump to conclusions about people and make very harsh judgements very quickly. That being said, he's not above admitting he was wrong and changing his mind. His mind, on the matter, is very logical, and any action that goes against the logical path will leave him confused. Arguing is a passion of his, and is given when it isn't warranted.

History[]

Hiyato was born in the United Republic to a reasonably comfortable middle class family. As a child, he stood out, because instead of athletic feats, or trying to bend, he sat and read books and argued with people. His marks, however, were exceptional. Even if it caused his teachers no end of worry about how much he could frustrate them while keeping ahead of other students. His social skills lagged behind, and he eventually just felt rejected and out of place.

This is why his bending lagged behind, it appeared when he was nine, and even then, he wasn't very good. It more or less took the full blown onset of puberty in his mid-teens for him to actually become somewhat athletic. When that happened, his confidence grew, as well as his ability to bend fire. He had a purpose – something to fuel his fire. He was determined to never let himself turn out like the people around him; vain, narcissistic arseholes who fluctuate from calamity to fuck-up. He could, on his own, make the world a better place for everyone by spreading the word of not doing that. By rising above all the shit.

However, despite his best efforts, it just didn't work. He just pushed more and more people away till he didn't care any more. He became one with the wind, floating through, with grades and ability to bend dropping faster than his self-esteem. When he hit his late teens, he grunted through one last final twist – he was more amused by the stupidity than frustrated by it. He gained arrogance and confidence once more, and while this neither helped his bending or his grades, he was happier than he had ever been.

His parents still saw in him strong talents, and so they suggested he leave, and go to republic city because that was where he could make use of them. So he accepted a citizenship visa, and looked to republic city for easy work, decent money and cheap drinks. He would make the most of this.
