Janrei Anrosen is a Non-Bending bladesman from the Fire Nation, though born to a Firebending family. Wielding a katana and ropedarts, he is well armed and skilled as he comes into Republic City with an Airbending style of movement with Firebending ferocity.

Jan appears as a young man with fair skin and black hair with blue eyes. He wears a slice scar over his eye, but a grin across his face. His tall build is decently lean and muscled.

Day to day, he wears a black hooded longcoat over a navy blue shirt and pants. Black leather boots and gloves are also worn with a face mask.

Having traveled and learned much of other cultures, Janrei is wise, though somewhat of a joker, taking to insulting foolish people who understand little. He does not harbor resentment to benders in a hateful fashion, but seeks to better himself than blame misfortune on others.

  • Wristhooks: A pair of hidden weapons under the sleeves, the sheng biaos are connected to a springing rig that lets either only the blade to spring out or launch the entire blade and cord. The blade itself is a spike with a hooked end, allowing blunt blows or hooking into stone or clothing.

Jan is a skilled motorcycle driver and freerunner, able to weave through the streets and rooftops on foot. (Very rarely motorcycling on the roof, mind you.)

Combat Style

With blade training, particularly with the katana and sheng biao, or ropedart, Jan's quick and adaptable style of fighting encourages Airbending-like movement with his blade following suit, usually the blunt end to incapacitate. He also possesses skill with the bow and can target specific body parts to prevent or ensure fatality, though always opts for the former.

Born to a lower tier aristocratic family of Firebenders, but without the ability to perform the art, Janrei grew up learning martial arts instead of Bending like his siblings. His childhood was ridiculous, as he still managed to best his siblings in evasion and pranking them. For a number of years until he turned ten, anyway. At that point, he was taught a ruthless form of Fire Nation bladesmanship. But it was not enough for him.

At thirteen, his family permitted him to set out for the other nations to learn other forms of bladework with the hope that he would find his own way, even giving him a stipend to get himself started. Along his travels, he met and befriended an Airbender who was travelling to Republic City. She later taught him how to be like the leaf after spending time together and seeing each other in combat with ruffian benders. He trained for two years to move smoothly and adaptively to his environment, even after they parted ways. Thusly, he developed an effective form of freerunning and unarmed combat.

By fifteen, he was an effective fighter and was well traveled. He did honorable work; guarding unprotected shops, escorting caravans, courier work, even earning a name for himself. After two years of this, he had the money to go to Republic city and help with citizen protection to aid the Avatar's efforts, hearing about it first through the Airbender, but obviously with extralegal methods. He took a ferry in with a motorcycle he "obtained" and blended himself into the city after registration.
