Probending Solo Match: Yagura vs Osamurei

Arena Info

The arena is a flat platform, cleaned and polished for the matches. The octagonal arena is fenced off, making it so none may leave or enter until a match has concluded. There are earth disk slots and water vents evenly spaced out underground for use.

The coin toss was shown in favor of <Wind>. He may take the first post or pass it off to <Hydro> in the area below.

Osamurei: Osamurei's expression is one of stern focus as he steps briskly into the arena. However, his face can't help but break into a smile as it gazes upon the form of his former protege. Osamurei grins and nods amicably toward Yagura before diligently arranging himself into a horse stance for the outset of combat. Granting the opportunity to take the first move in the fight, Osamurei decides to capitalize. Greatly desiring to observe how far Yagura has come before they truly get into the thick of battle, Osamurei lunges both arms forward with the palms touching and open. From this maneuver, a simplistic yet potent stream of flame erupts and careens its way toward Yagura's chest. Dice Roll Outcome: 4-Block

Yagura: To this very day, Yagura still held great respect for Osamurei and wasn't surprised at all to find out he made it to the finals. He already knew he had a great battle before him. Crossing his arms in an 'X' formation as the blast sped towards him, Yagura used his own bending to block it. Seeing the need to retaliate, he took a great leap towards him as his entire right arm was coated in flame. As he came down towards his rival he tried to deliver an excellent karate chop to the base of Osamurei's neck, the attack took advantage of the user's near invulnerability to his own fire. Yagura was glad he was wearing shorts and a sleeveless shirt so he hopefully didn't have to worry about burning his own clothes like in his previous match against Patuq. Dice Roll Outcome: 2-Glancing Blow

Osamurei: Osamurei quickly pivots to the right to avoid the fiery karate chop. The maneuver allows him to escape the worst of the attack but Yagura's fingertips manage to graze his neck, leaving moderate burns behind. Growling and briefly placing a hand to his singed neck, he tunes out the pain and shifts his focus to his next attack. Struck with sudden inspiration, Osamurei performs a pinwheel maneuver on the ground and kicks his leg out aggressively. However, instead of a ball or stream of flame, a fire whip erupts ferociously from the palm of his foot. The incendiary lash launches forward and threatens to wrap itself around Yagura's tender neck. Right as the whip completes its emergence, Osamurei springs to his feet and punches out with both hands, sending two pyro spheres careening toward each of Yagura's legs. Osamurei secretes an aspiration that his potent trifecta attack will yield at least one succesful hit.

Dice Roll Outcome: 5-Redirect

Yagura: Yagura has knocked away the attack but his defense quickly turned into offense, the blazing cord had been flung right towards Osamurei's face. He had decided to use a similar approach to deal with the pair of flaming orbs hurling towards his legs. With a small leap, he deflected them both with a swift roundhouse kick. Yagura didn't have time to specifically aim them towards any specific part of his foe's body, he just hoped both reflected attacks would take his enemy by surprise and successfully harm him.

Osamurei: Incensed the fact that his onslaught has been so harmlessly deflected,Osamurei initially prepares to deal with the rebounding whip. However, Osamurei quickly changes his focus as the lash dissipates harmlessly on its return. Zoning in on the rebounding fireballs, Osamurei takes a deep breath and then dexterously catches them deftly in his hands close to his body and allows himself to be spun around by the impact. The spinning momentum of the absorption affords him the opportunity to propel the fireballs back toward their original target with amplified velocity. Dice Roll Outcome: 1-Direct Hit

Yagura: The pair of blazing spheres were simply too quick for him this time, one had struck his arm while the other had crashed into his stomach. Evidence of his damage were stinging first-degree burns and a noticeable hole in his shirt, Yagura hissed as the waves of pain surged through his body. Though he was grateful his ability to resist heat reduced his injury by a decent amount. Determined to strike back, the firebender was propelled by roaring jets of flame that erupted from his feet. As he began to hurtle around Osamurei from a distance, Yagura fired a round of powerfully charged fireballs that sped towards him from all angles at a great velocity.

Dice Roll Outcome: 4-Block

Osamurei: Faced with the impending collision with Yagura's lethal charged attack, Osamurei rapidly immolates pressurized flames on the ground around himself, creating an improvised barricade about 6 feet tall. Osamurei allows himself a reprieving sigh of relief as the barrage of fireballs bounce harmlessly off of the fiery stockade. Initially considering removing the barrier so that he can resume attacking his opponent, Osamurei decides that it would be more prudent to attempt an attack from within his enclosure and maximize his potent defensive advantage. Stepping toward the edge of the circumference within the flames, Osamurei methodically conjures up a mighty firebomb and launches it into the air like an elemental mortar of doom. He watches its trajectory with grim satisfaction as it reaches peak height and then descends ominously toward Yagura. Dice Roll Outcome: 3-Miss/Dodge

Yagura: While Yagura was irritated by his failed attack, he remained steadfast as the fiery bomb soared through the air. He hadn't stopped moving and his current velocity made it possible to escape the blast radius completely unscathed, he was grateful for this since his current burns were still quite recent. Yagura doubted his ability to blast through Osa's defense, but there was an obvious vulnerability: the opening above his foe's head. The firebender used his flames to speed towards his foe and then soar over his tangible flames, he took the chance to discharge an intense blast of fire (Fire Stream + Fire Charging) from the palm of his hands that sped towards it's target overhead. Whether the attack was successful or not, Yagura ceased propelling himself with flames and landed a couple feet away from Osamurei.

Dice Roll Outcome: 5-Redirect Osamurei: Faced with only one feasible method to counter the potency of Yagura's fire stream, Osamurei quickly lunges forward into a flawlessly executed Pu Bu Stance. From Osamurei's weathered palms, a flaming surge of his own comes billowing forth. Having pressurized and fire-charged his own attack, the vitality and tenacity of his flames soon begin to overpower those of his fellow firebender. Soon his counter reaches sufficient strength to reverse the trajectory of Yagura's flames and send them propelling ferociously back toward their original caster. Dice Roll Outcome: 3-Miss/Dodge

Yagura: Yagura barely managed to leap to his right, avoiding the deflected attack. He quickly clasped his hands together and concentrated for a moment. His palms were pushed apart by a growing orb of flames, the explosive sphere expanded to the size of a rather large basketball. As flaming jets carried Yagura above he silently prayed the fire bomb would get through Osa's impressive defense. Hovering over his flames, he threw it straight at Osamurei moments before it detonated.

Dice Roll Outcome: 4-Block

Osamurei: Fully aware that Yagura's only feasible method of attack would be to attack his exposed upward flank, Osamurei is well prepared for his opponent's use of a fire bomb. However, Osamurei is caught off guard by the fact that Yagura has placed himself in the air as well and so has to quickly improvise in order to stymie the ingenious maneuver by his former protege. Osamurei methodically places his hands on the ground face up in the shape of a bowl and then rapidly raises them upward, conjuring up a massive stream of pressurized and fire-charged conflagration more potent than any he has summoned up to this point. The sheer ferocity and might of the stream blasts Yagura's fire bomb right out of orbit and harmlessly toward the edge of the arena. With Yagura airborne, Osamurei sees no prudence whatsoever in executing a separate strategy for his attack, electing instead to direct his dynamic stream toward Yagura's legs in an attempt to blast his opponent out of the air.

Yagura: The firebender cried out in mind-numbing pain as he felt the flesh of his skin intensely roasted, Yagura fought back towards he dropped to the floor with a loud groan. He thought about how easy it'd be to simply quit and get these burns healed as soon as possible. But Yagura's spirit and tenacity simply wouldn't allow that at all, the young athlete forced himself to stand and block out the immense agony. Firing above Osamurei's defense was simply a losing battle, he had to try something more...daring. He knew entering his flaming barrier was incredibly risky and his injury could impede his ability to avoid further attacks. But Yagura quickly carried himself over it with rocketing flames from the palms of his hands. They quickly ceased as he began to fall directly towards his foe. With determination and will, he prepared to deliver a devastating punch to his forehead. Jets of flame had shot out from his elbow while enhancing the speed of his attack.

Dice Roll Outcome: 1-Direct Hit

Osamurei: A wave of unspeakable pain reverberates through Osamurei's mind as Yagura's augmented punch makes contact. Blood erupts from where impact and obscures his vision. Osamurei ignores the pain momentarily, knowing keeping his balance is paramount to avoiding being blasted against the flaming stockade. Having secured his balance, Osamurei exhumes a slew of swears as the pain reaches its apex and he wipes the blood out of his eyes. Having spent the entirety of the fight up to this point unscathed, it takes Osamurei a minute to realign his mental and emotional focus. Ultimately deciding that his flaming barricade has served its purpose, Osamurei turns on the jets and propels himself over it and lands softly on the other side. He then steps toward the side of it and removes a section, compromising the once mighty barrier's protection. Taking a couple steps backward, he then fires a barrage of five malicious fireballs through the exposed flank toward Yagura. He hopes that his opponent will still be acclimating himself to the altered layout of the battle and won't be prepared to stymie his attack. Dice Roll Outcome: 5-Redirect ]

Yagura: The atmosphere was definitely warm and the air was quite dry, causing Yagura to cough for a moment. But fortunately he had remained vigilant and witnessed the volley of flaming orbs rushing towards him, he quickly punched all 5 with speed and accuracy. His fists were left slightly singed from the extremely short contact with the fire. As the deflected spheres flew back to their sender, Yagura winced at the pain from the immense burns that remained on his legs. Standing was a challenge and he was sure walking or running would be difficult as well.

Dice Roll Outcome: 1-Direct Hit

Osamurei: Osamurei naively believes that his rapid strike will grant him sufficient respite to tend to his head wound and so is caught completely unawares by the speed at which Yagura redirects his would-be mighty attack. All five fireballs catch him squarely in the chest, and he finds himself rented backwards and off his feet by the impact, landing roughly on his rump. Shaking his head in disgust, Osamurei tries to get back on his feet but hesitates as he begins rapidly coughing up blood. He lets out another string of vulgarities as he realizes that the blast has punctured one of his lungs. Wary of putting his one good lung on overtime duty but stubborn as a donkeyhare, Osamurei gingerly takes his feet once more. Thinking it best to minimize his use of bending due to its strain on his lung, Osamurei jogs gingerly toward Yagura and aims a sweeping kick at the cleft of his chin, augmenting it with an arc of fire to hopefully turn the tables of a fight that is starting to get away from him. Yagura: Yagura swiftly swats away his foot with his left wrist, negating Osamurei's kick. Grinning as he formulated his next plan of attack, the firebender shot himself into the air as high as he could with jets of flame that erupted from the soles of his feet. On his way up, he began creating another large roaring sphere of fire. For a moment it seemed like Yagura would merely launch it from above, but as he ceased the rocketing flames he began to fall at a great pace. His plan was to detonate the well-charged bomb at a point-blank range. His heat resistance would prevent any serious damage to himself and he was sure to utilize jet propulsion again to cushion his landing.

Dice Roll Outcome: 2-Glancing Blow

Osamurei: Osamurei initially exhumes in relief as the poorly aimed bomb sails wide left. However, the point-blank nature of the attack results in a failure to escape unscathed from the resulting explosion, leaving the left side of his body with moderate burns. Every facet of his brain screams at Osamurei to lay down his flames and abort the fight, but he knows he has not reached the apex of his journey and his adrenaline continues to outclass his ability to feel the wounds that ravage his body. Electing to try something foolhardy, Osamurei activates his own powers of jet propulsion as flames erupt from the soles of his feet and carry him into the air. He blasts himself toward Yagura with fists outstretched, Just as he's about to reach his opponent, he retracts his fists and thrusts them out again, generating potent arcs of fire as he aims dual jet propelled punches at Yagura's head. Dice Roll Outcome: 5-Redirect

Yagura: Yagura rolled his eyes as he saw his shirt completely incinerate due to his moderately successful attack, he at least hoped his shorts would last for the rest of the match. "Dammit..." The firebender gritted his teeth as he was quick to completely reverse the course of the attack, Yagura's plan was to completely immolate Osamurei's arms with his own flames. A creative move that would hopefully impede some of his attacks, much like the burns to his legs did to him.

Dice Roll Outcome:4-Block

Osamurei: Osamurei's eyes widen as he sees his saving grace attack rebounding and threatening to incinerate his arms. He rapidly launches a point-blank fireball emboldened from pressurization at the rebounding fire. His desperate fireball diverts the counter-attack from its trajectory and sends both conjurations of fire careen harmlessly toward right field. Despite emerging from the encounter unscathed, Osamurei is less than pleased at his situation. His last few long range attacks have yielded less than stellar results, and his foray into close combat almost resulted in disaster. Having faced failure on each of these fronts, he determines that something in between might be more privy to taking back the edge in the matchup. Osamurei quickly steps back about a foot and then ascends into the air with flames dispatching from the soles of his feet. He continues his ascension until he is about a foot above Yagura's head. With his feet still keeping him airborne, Osamurei uses his free hands to launch two lashes of flame at his opponent from above. Hoping that the maneuver will engineer a high degree of chaos if successful, he launches the fire whips right at Yagura's face.

Dice Roll Outcome: 3-Miss/Dodge

Yagura: Dammit.. Yagura had been quite mobile throughout the match and was forced to endure the horrid agony from his legs, he was reminded of the injury every second he remained standing. But as his suffering continued, his thirst for victory grew. Naturally the firebender hadn't expected an attack from above, but was confident in his ability to avoid it. Moving both of his hands to his right, jets of flame ignited from them and pushed him to safety. Yagura had fallen, certainly unable to stand any longer. This wasn't good. But he didn't come all this way to be defeated in the final match. With a deep breath, he prepared his last, desperate attack. He began discharging a powerful widespread volley of fireballs, each blazing orb immensely charged. He wanted to overwhelm Osamurei with an unholy amount of pain with and end the match with him as the victor. The number of fiery spheres had ranged at about 30-40, two rushing from both of his hands at a time.

Hydro (OOC): And with that, the match is over and our first probending tournament comes to an end. Had alot of fun honestly. Now the judging should commence, though I'd prefer commentary as seen here. To Wind, may the best man win.

Gig : This match was truly worthy of the finals, both of you were detailed and your reactions to the other's moves were exciting and well thought out. I would have given both of you 12 for the power useage but there were a few brilliant points from hydro that just made me smile, the jet propulsion punch for example, so he got the extra point. Hydro, you had a few typos in there so I deducted a point off of you for that, both of you complied with the RNG so no problems there.

As much as I thought both of you were great during the fight, if I picture it in my head all that damage Osa took late in the match and the final glancing blow would have just barely won Yagura the match. To go with this I felt that Wind was a little too convoluted at times but as I could understand it all I wasn't going to take points from him for that. All in all I'd say victory to Yagura but only barely, he lucked out and if the fight was done again I'd have to bet on Osa... Good work guys.

Dark :Not one for after-game speeches so I'll be quick. You both did excellent, but I'm putting my money on Wind for this one. He came up with many more exquisite ways to use his bending to get the job done. But, over all, kudos to you both.

Riri: The match was really good, nice work. While I had to take off a point for Wind for using the fire whip, and Hydro did have some typos, you guys were creative with your posts. I'd say Wind did have an upper hand on this one, honestly. But I really liked this match, great work you two. :D
