Bender type: Waterbender
Sanna-Li is deeply tanned and sun-weathered, her hands and feet rough and calloused from time spent working outdoors. Her shock of white hair is a stark contrast to her skin, and her glowing orange eyes are always filled with a certain intensity. She has long arms that are taunt with sinuous muscle and legs that are powerful from time exercising, but for her all her power she only stands at 5'4. Small and compact, Sanna-Li packs a punch.
Sanna-Li doesn't really talk, and when she does it's often not to humans, but to animals. She loves listening to people, and she quite enjoys knowing people's secrets, but otherwise she limits her contact with other people, unless she's fighting them. Although mindless violence is something Sanna-Li detests, she enjoys the art of fighting as a recreational thing, so she's enamored with the game of probending. She also is a very silent person in her movements, and she has the awful habit of appearing next to people seemingly out of thin air, because she has a lack of presence. Love-life-wise, Sanna-Li's is almost nonexistent because she finds it difficult to form connections to people, and therefore prefers to engage in one night stands and the like.
When Adlartok left the northern water tribe on her seventeenth birthday to go and explore the world, it was expected by all her family and friends that she would return within the year and resume her former life. However, the opposite was the case, as the young and impressionable Adlartok met a man in Gaoling and fell deeply in love with him, deciding she would settle in the city with him. They were a happy couple; enjoyable to have as neighbours and hard-working members of the community. Adlartok bore one child, a baby girl whom she wanted to name Sanna, but her husband wanted to name Li. In the end, they settled on a mixed name; Sanna-Li.
Sanna-Li grew up as the reflection of her parents; kind, respectful, hardworking and friendly. Despite her being a fantastic citizen of Gaoling, some people felt uneasy around her, because the girl had a habit of sneaking up on people and observing them silently. She loved the feeling of knowing people’s secrets without having any of her own, and this made her a very trustworthy person. At school she was always being told secrets, which stayed with her forever.
Like her mother, Sanna-Li was a waterbender, and Adlartok took great pleasure in instructing her daughter in the ways of bending. By nine Sanna-Li was a capable bender, and she happily joined in the playground fun of making sculptures and temporary playthings out of water and mud, as well as play-fighting. All through her schooling years, Sanna-Li would help her father with his coal business, which involved plenty of outdoors work hauling coal to the houses of various citizens so they could fuel their fires. It would have much easier work for an earthbender, but she never complained.
Her time in school flew by, and Sanna-Li soon found herself, at seventeen, on the cusp of adulthood and responsible life. She didn’t feel at all ready for becoming a responsible adult, so she left Gaoling with her parents’ permission and escaped into the Foggy Swamp near the town. She spent a year in the Swamp, learning how to fend for herself and survive in a unknown environment, and she did so in complete silence. The lack of human company suited her introverted nature, and she made a number of animal friends who she felt understood her better than humans ever could.
As much as she enjoyed her time in the Swamp, Sanna-Li knew she would have to leave eventually and return to her life in Gaoling. She packed up her small living quarters when she was eighteen and headed out of the swamp, back to her home, only to find that her mother and father had gone on a trip to the Northern Water Tribe to visit Adlartok’s family. Unsure where she could stay, Sanna-Li went on a trek through the Earth Republic, trying to find herself a life without her parents. On her journey, she discovered the Citizenship program of Republic City and decided to enlist, arriving in the city when she was nineteen.
